Pastor James W. Johnson, Jr. was born in Camden, AR on June 21, 1974. He was raised in Little Rock, AR by his mother, Minister Dorothy Harrison with two siblings Sister Jacque Snider and Missionary Renita Hoof. In 1992, he graduated from John L. McClellan High School in the top 2% of his class and received a Congressional appointment to the prestigious United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.
In 1996, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in General Sciences with a concentration in Mathematics while also receiving a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force. In his second military assignment, he transitioned to Langley Air Force Base, VA. Within weeks of his arrival, he received an invitation to attend Gates of Heaven, Church of the Living God International, Inc. (CLGI) by Pastor Charles Robinson. On January 20, 1998, his life would change. After a spirit-filled bible study, the Lord opened his heart and converted him in a late night call to his pastor. He became a member of Gates of Heaven, CLGI in Hampton, VA and was affectionately known as “Brother Jay.”
On May 8, 1998, Brother Jay experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit while on his first missionary journey to Schio, Italy. In June 1998, Brother Jay answered the Lord’s call into the ministry. Later the same year, he began travels with the Founder and Presiding Bishop, Dr. Joseph White, that would take him all over the world.
As he grew in the grace of God, he was honored to serve in his local church with such duties as usher, missionary, trustee, and deacon. He was also selected to serve on the building committee for Gates of Heaven’s initial construction project of $1.2M. In September 2000, Minister Jay was recognized as the International Missionary of the Year. He went on to serve as the Northeast Jurisdictional Youth Director and cofounded the International College Prep Program enabling a path to college for young people of faith.
In October 2005, Minister Jay was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Minister Luv E. Moore of Columbus, OH. The two would work in the Missions and Youth departments traveling all over the world together. In 2008, Minister Jay was chosen to pastor Restoration, CLGI in Ahoskie, NC. With the help of the Lord, Pastor Jay was able to grow the church’s membership.
In 2009, the Lord led Pastor Jay and Minister Luv to Augusta, GA where they would start Augusta Worship Center, CLGI with the help of faithful members. Through the grace of God, Augusta Worship Center has become a thriving ministry and a place of grace for families in the Augusta area.
In 2011, the Lord used Pastor Jay to expand the borders of the work establishing The Harvest, CLGI in Fairfax, SC. One year later, the Lord planted Perfect Peace, CLGI in Hinesville, GA. In 2013 and 2015, the Lord would add Restoration Global Life Ministries in Waynesboro, GA and The Pavilion, CLGI in Brunswick, GA forming the East GA District where he served as District Superintendent.
In July 2017, Pastor Jay was ordained a Bishop and presides as the Southeast Jurisdictional Bishop of thirteen churches throughout Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and North and South Carolina.
Bishop Johnson and Minister Luv are the proud parents of Brother Andrew Joseph Johnson and Sister Lydia Annalise Johnson. They are blessed to have loving mothers, Elder Meta Chube and Minister Dorothy Harrison, who have been a wonderful support to them. Lastly, the couple have been recipients of the faithful counsel and guidance of the Founder and Presiding Bishop, Dr. Joseph White. Without the Lord and Dr. White none of these spiritual experiences would have been possible.
